Caucus Scrutinises Agriculture MTEF Allocation — Raises Concern Over Rural Development Cuts

During the 2026/27 MTEF deliberations, ANC caucus members raised concerns that the Agriculture and Rural Development budget was reduced by R180 million against a backdrop of increased drought conditions and growing food insecurity in Xhariep and Thabo Mofutsanyane districts. The caucus will seek amendments before the budget is tabled for adoption.

The ANC Free State Caucus has noted the 2023/24 Auditor-General outcomes for provincial departments. Energy Committee Report: Load-Shedding Impact Assessment — QwaQwa and Lejweleputswa

The Portfolio Committee on Economic Development and Tourism, Energy Sub-Committee, has published findings from its Q3 impact assessment of extended load-shedding on SMMEs in QwaQwa and the Lejweleputswa economic corridor. The report estimates a R2.3bn quarterly loss to provincial GDP and recommends an emergency renewable energy micro-grid feasibility study.
