How public participation works

Your query moves through a structured process to ensure every voice receives a considered response from your representative.

Submit
Use the online form, visit your PCO in person, or write to the caucus office with your concern, query, or information request.
Acknowledge
You receive written acknowledgement within 5 working days confirming receipt and the name of the MPL handling your matter.
Engage
The MPL may contact you for further detail, refer the matter to the relevant department, or raise it in a committee or plenary sitting.
Respond
A formal written response is provided within 30 days. Complex matters may be escalated with progress updates every 15 days.

Every query submitted to an MPL is logged, tracked, and escalated to the responsible department where necessary. Your MPL is constitutionally required to respond in writing within 30 days.

What happens after you make contact

Reference number issuedYou receive a unique reference number within 24 hours confirming your query has been received.
MPL confirmedYour query is assigned to the MPL representing your district or the relevant topic area.
Engagement & escalationThe MPL may raise the matter in the relevant portfolio committee or directly with the responsible MEC.
Written response within 30 daysA formal reply is issued. Complex matters are escalated with progress updates every 15 days.

Any person may request access to records held by the caucus under PAIA (Act 2 of 2000). The Information Officer processes requests within 30 days.

Constituency Offices (PCOs)
Each MPL maintains a constituency office open Monday to Friday. Walk in, call ahead, or book an appointment online. All services are free of charge.
